A Monthly Website Maintenance Checklist for Small Businesses
A small business website can become inaccurate in tiny ways: an old phone number, a broken enquiry form or a page that no longer reads well on a phone. A monthly check keeps the essentials visible.
Test the actions customers rely on
Open the website on a phone. Tap phone and email links, submit an enquiry using a test address, and confirm the thank-you page and reply process work. Never use a real customer's details for a test.
Review business facts
Check hours, service descriptions, pricing, location details and team information. Make sure these match the business's current offerings and the Google Business Profile.
Check every important link
Visit the main service pages and follow key internal links. Look for 404 pages, outdated external links, duplicate redirects and links that point to an old domain.
Look at mobile speed and layout
Run a mobile performance check and inspect the page on a real phone. Large images, third-party scripts and web fonts can delay visual completion even when the page starts rendering quickly. Keep nonessential embeds lazy-loaded.
Keep software and recovery paths current
Apply supported platform updates, confirm backups or version history are available, and check who has access to the site. Record issues and resolve the ones that block enquiries or misstate core facts first.
